Illinois domestic workers recently won the passage of the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights, so beginning January 1, 2017, most domestic workers in Illinois will be covered under the state minimum wage law. Most domestic workers are already covered under the federal minimum wage law. Domestic workers who work in Chicago are entitled to earn the higher Chicago minimum wage (though an employer is still allowed to pay just $7.75 an hour for the first 90 days of employment in Chicago).
