  • DETAILS: This event features the premiere screening of the new short documentary film Demanding Justice: A History of Domestic Workers; launch of the first ever digital timeline of domestic worker history; and the unveiling of a series of original portraits of domestic worker “movement ancestors.” Just in time for the anniversary of the birth of movement ancestor Dorothy Bolden, we will gather to celebrate her visionary leadership, as well as the legacy of so many others who have built the foundation for domestic worker organizing today. The event is the culmination of a three-year collaboration between NDWA and activist-scholars Jennifer Guglielmo, Michelle Joffroy, and Diana Sierra Becerra at Smith College.

The day in the park will round out a month of chapter activities and will be our first official in-person meet up for all of our chapter members this year, plus our new members and contacts in Fayetteville. The celebration will feature food, music, testimony and remarks from membership, games, and art making. Families and friends are invited to participate as well!

“Dear Domestic Workers, Thank You” Mural Tour

  • WHAT: “Dear Domestic Workers, Thank You” Mural Tour
  • WHERE: 1313 Sylvan Road, Atlanta, GA 30310
  • WHEN: Saturday, October 16th, from 10 am to 2 pm
  • DETAILS: Public art campaign in Atlanta to lift up the legacy of Dorothy Bolden and Black domestic workers in the South. We’ll be joined by Dorothy Bolden’s family. The 5 mile tour features four different buildings that will tell parts of Dorothy Bolden’s story: her contribution to the civil rights movement, her voter registration efforts, and her leadership in the fight for domestic workers’ dignity and rights. The mural series seeks to highlight the importance of care workers in our community — both past and present — and show how communities cannot thrive without the love of domestic workers.
